Aquatic Ecology Stream Wiki Assessment

Introduction:             1. Each group has been assigned a different stream or watershed.

2. Groups will construct an online user created encyclopedia
    (WIKI)

3. Each member of the group must be assigned different duties

for which they are responsible and upon which they are graded

Requirements:           Your WIKI  will include sections on:

Background information obtained from sheets 1,2, and 4 including but not limited to:

Data Sheet 1 (Watershed Inventory) should include:

- water resources

-  soil demographics

-  land and water uses
Data Sheet 2 ( Stream reach Survey) should include:

- Vegatation

- Riparian Zone Width

- Overhead Canopy

- Channel Characteristics

- Crosss Sectional Shape

- Stream Bank Structure

- Reach habitat

- Human Alterations

Data Sheet 4 (Stream Bottom Survey) should include:

- Substrate size and %

- Site description

- Site location

- Embeddedness

- Consolidation

  Biological stream assessment to include:

-BMI sampling your group/our class conducted including:

Detailed Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) data from your stream including tables

and calculations for determining stream quality which must include:

-          Aquatic Invertebrate Tally (table 2.10) cumulative of all samples

-          Species Richness Subscore (table 2.11)

-          Dominance Index Subscore (Table 2.12)

-          Indicator Species (table 2.13)

-          Calculations of IBI using formula

-          Index of Biotic Integrity and Water Quality (Table 2.14)

-  pictures we took of your BMIs with common names and scientific names

-fish sampling data including a list of species collected identified by common

  name and scientific name,

Chemical assessment using Vernier Probes and Lamotte Limnology Assessment kits. Your presentation will include:

  1. Summary of the importance each water quality assessment has on aquatic life.
  2.  Acceptable levels of each chemicals or ideal

       ranges for aquatic organisms.
